How do i know i have a leak?
Sometimes there may be signs, and sometimes there aren’t. Usually the first sign people see is the water bill. If you have a high water bill, that might be an indication you have a leak. Do some at home testing first to ensure you may have a leak.
What at home testing can i do to determine if i have a leak?
1. Check the meter – If the meter is ticking fast, you have a leak. If you cant tell, write down the numbers on the meter and check back in an hour or over night. Make sure all your homes water fixtures are not to be used whilst you test, i.e – no flushing toilets, washing machine, dishwasher, sprinklers etc. Check the meter again and if the numbers have gone up, you have a leak.
2. Look for signs – Find damp spots on your lawn, drive way, pavers, path, etc. Any visible signs of water pooling when there has been no rain, this may be an indication you may have a leak.
3. Unusually High Water Bills – A sudden increase in your water bill without an apparent reason can indicate a hidden leak.
4. Call an expert – If your unsure and just need a professional opinion, give the team at The Leak Detection Company a a call. An experienced technician can help determine if you have one or not.
What are potential obstacles in finding my leak?
Every home or business is unique, and so are the leaks. Therefore, a 100% guarantee is not always possible. Our technicians rely on advanced equipment, and if all conditions are favourable, we can almost certainly locate your leak. However, if we are unable to do so, these are some common reasons:
Weather Conditions – Rain and high winds can affect the accuracy of our equipment and may hinder the leak detection process. If it is raining or windy, we will reschedule to return on a clear day.
Location Factors – High traffic areas and nearby construction sites can cause equipment interference, making it more challenging to pinpoint leaks.
Property-Specific Challenges – Dense vegetation or landscaping can obstruct access to the suspected leak area.
Large or complex plumbing systems may require more time and effort to thoroughly inspect.
Technical Limitations – Interference from underground utilities such as electrical lines, gas lines, and telecommunication cables can complicate the detection process.
Older or non-standard plumbing materials might affect the performance of certain detection technologies.
Access Restrictions – Limited access to certain parts of the property, such as locked areas or restricted zones, can impede the inspection process.
Resolution – In the rare instance that we are unable to locate the leak due to these or other factors, we will suggest and offer the best possible solution to address the issue.
